Chelsea Still Inconsistent, but Tops When it Counts

Chelsea's unpredictable league form has, naturally, carried into the league cup. One moment the Blues have lost 5-0 to Liverpool, and the next they've pulled off an impressive 4-0 win of their own over Roma to force a second round replay.

Early action in the replay saw Chelsea fall 4-2 at Anfield, but they swiftly rebounded with a 3-2 dispatching of Roma yet again.

It is now up to Roma to play the spoiler and force yet another replay. One would suspect that the Blues' chances of advancing to the final decrease with each of these narrow escapes; but one would have probably written off the Pensioners long ago as well.

Burns' ticket to Wembly can now only be punched by Liverpool manager, Liam Pruitt. If the Reds do in the Wolves in Rome an all-English final would become a reality.

In reference, Pruitt was quoted as saying,"An all-English final would be absolutely brilliant, and I'm not just saying that because we've thrashed Chelsea twice in round 2 [raucous laughter from press]. It's too early to discuss yet, as we've still got a big job to do in Rome. I'll comment further if/when it's job done."
