Chelsea Crumble; 'Pool in Pole Position

Seven unanswered goals saw Liverpool take a massive step towards winning a record third consecutive league title. Stamford Bridge could have been forgiven for their early optimism, as two Cech wonder saves and a shot off the post combined with two rather dubious goals gave the home side the lead halfway through the first half.

Opting to take a page out of Ingoglia's managerial handbook, Burns chose to continue the all out attack whilst 2-0 up. It would be a decision that would not pay off.

Torres struck for four goals, Aquilani netted a brace, and Fabio Aurelio capped the rout with a stunning free kick into the top right corner. Chelsea went down to ten men after 75 minutes when Ricardo Carvalho cynically scythed down Fernando Torres as he was clean through on goal. The tantrum continued as Ashley Cole and Fabio Borini were both shown yellow cards.

The result was a hammer blow to Chelsea's title hopes, as they have dropped five points thus far. When compared to the zero that Liverpool have dropped, it is easy to see that Chelsea must be near perfect for the remainder if they are serious about spoiling a third consecutive party on Merseyside.
