Liverpool Snatch Community ShieldNeither manager opted for a true first-choice starting 11, prioritizing the start of the Premier League season ahead of the Shield. It was Liverpool who looked to have the better plan B, as they dominated in possession, shots, corners, and passing. The Reds had to wait close to 40 minutes for the breakthrough when David N'Gog finally opened Liverpool's account for the Fall season. A wasteful Liverpool were able to keep tight enough at the back to ensure the slim advantage would hold, and they claimed their 3rd Community Shield on the back of the 1-0 victory.

Liverpool would rely on another slim margin to sneak past Bayern Munich, as both sides looked to start their Premier League campaigns with 3 points. Ryan Babel returned to the starting 11 in place of the injured Joe Cole on the left wing, and provided a constant threat in tandem with man of the match, Paul Konchesky. The former Fulham man made his Liverpool debut count, and turned in a fine performance, worthy of the top honor. Fernando Torres took another step towards 100 league goals, netting the eventual winner in the 14th minute. Once again it was the Merseyside back line that won them the match, severely limiting Bayern's chances and closing out the match in fine style.

Chelsea Survive Roma Scare
Nervy times in west London as Chelsea surrendered a two goal lead and required a late Nicolas Anelka winner to snatch them all 3 points. Two early goals from Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba looked to have set Chelsea on cruise control to an easy win, but in typical Burns' fashion, things became difficult quickly. Simone Perotta and Mirko Vucinic struck back to back to rattle the Blues and it looked as if the upset could be on. It was always going to be difficult up against an astronomically expensive and talented Chelsea side and the Romans could not hold on any longer as Nicolas Anelka nicked the points from the deserving visitors.

Not so sure if you can say Roma were deserving of anything other than the 0 points they collected. Chelsea put shot that 25 (18 on target) to 6 and played better the entire match. All credit to Critt for playing hard but he didn't deserve the draw.

ReplyDeleteWe could either heap praise on Roma for their against all odds fightback or slate Chelsea for their poor defense and unconvincing win.
I suppose when you choose to play with that club, the only person willing to slap you on the back and blow smoke up your urethra is yourself (and other one-eyed, glory baskers).
Yes my team is rated higher than Roma's. That being said, my team's ratings have dropped and I am no only rated higher than 3 of the other GIMP teams. Im not complaining I'm just saying you can't call me my squad the best this year when FIFA says it isn't

So let me get this straight... Roma who levelled the game by playing like Bolton deserved the point? Interesting how you are applauding his effort to win by playing anti-football. Normally that pisses you off to no end when someone plays like Stoke or Bolton (in real life or in the gimp)
