After a champions league shutout with Miccoli on the field
(3-0), Palermo hit another wall in a league match loss (5-2) that featured 14 shots on target for the boys in pink.
Miccoli, who is serving a 3 match ban for his straight red discipline against Liverpool, watched from the sidelines as Palermo fell quickly to 5-0 hole against Bayern. With double digit shots on target, one can only suspect a closer contest if some of those were off the boot of Fabrizio Miccoli.
Manager Ingoglia spoke out after his team's rough start to the season. "We new going into this, that it would be an uphill battle to contend with this talented group of teams and managers. I personally take the blame as the one in charge as I have not set us up, from a tactical standpoint, to gain points this season. We started out with some good solid matches losing heartbreakers early to top teams like Liverpool and Chelsea. However, things have fallen by the waistside and I intend to make some changes."
Does Palermo have what it takes to be a competitor this year? There is still much time left and many trophies to be won, yet if things don't change quickly, this could be another dismal year for the Italian manager.
14 shots? Hopefully Bayern's false league position is sorted soon. They've some tough matches coming up.

ReplyDelete14 sog to the likes of Torres, Lampard, Gerrard and Suarez will surely result in more goals than what Palermo could do.
ReplyDeleteYes Ian, a SoG is one that goes in or forces a save. 14 is quite a fucking lot of saves. Porous defending yet again, it seems.
ReplyDelete"shots" in FIFA constitutes any ball that the keeper gets his hands on. Crosses, missed through balls, clearances, etc.

A Palermo center half had an assist off of a clearance...you know like the game winner for Germany in the International final last year?
Yes, there were a number of half chances that can be reported in the match facts as full chances but the defence was not as "porous" as an outsider would think.

No argument there as I kick them straight at the keeper in one on ones.
"Shots on target" however can only be one thing. The fact that Neuer was man of the match only strengthens my argument. Tame shots they may be, but allowing 14 (16 including goals) will lose you most matches.

ReplyDeleteMy original point was that there were 14 saves made..not all were shots on target. I don't remember the match facts but 14 saves was unreal.
ReplyDeleteKeeper was obviously called upon quite a bit. You had a guy hit a hat trick and an assist and Neuer was chosen as man of the match.

ReplyDeleteIngo says 14-15 SOG because the game said Neuer made 14 saves to include crosses or any balls that he collected with his hands.
FIFA is not known for always picking the best candidate for Man of the Match
And my defence is NOT as porous as you think. One bad match against a glitchy Andy Carroll in my second match in over a week and a half (nobody's fault but my own) and my defence is now labeled as "porous"
I find it hard to believe that any time he touches the ball it counts as a save on FIFA.

Scoring from outside the box and dribbling like Messi with Carroll is the epitome of glitchy. It's pre-determined like you said before if a team or player is rated higher than who he's opposing he is going to win that battle nine times out of 10.

ReplyDeleteLook at the highlights of any match that you play. You will see that your keeper will have "saves" on simple balls rolling to his arms and crosses that are simple catching practice.

ReplyDeleteScored from outside the box with the outside of his left foot against west brom 2 weeks ago. Clip was last season's thunderbolt against man city.
