Liverpool Win Their 3rd DFA Cup

It took 120 minutes and 8 rounds of penalties for Liverpool to repeat as DFA Cup winners.

The Reds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 55 minutes, but an Arsenal fightback, aided by two injuries to Liverpool players, saw the sides deadlocked after 90 minutes.

Extra time proved too brief for Liverpool to best the stellar, and undroppable, Wojciech Szczesny, who had to contend with over a dozen shots on target. After the first 4 penalties taken were saved, 10 consecutive were then netted before Reina gave Daniel Agger the initiative to calmly slot the winner.

Their manager, L. Pruitt, was understandably relieved:


"I think it shows fantastic character. For the lads to come out here, against a vastly superior squad, and put enough fear into them so that they play in that manner, these men have done extremely well. When you come up against a side that isn't interested in outplaying you, and injures 20+ opponents a season, all whilst boasting a better squad than you, you know it's going to be a challenge."
