Thompson Implores Board to Spend in Market!

Arsenal Football Club manager, Ian Thompson, has delivered a clear message to the Arsenal board, demanding new signings at the club

After some mixed results in early pre-season friendlies, Arsenal manager Ian Thompson has called upon the board for squad reinforcements. 

“If we’re going to play the style of attacking football that we’ve come to love at The Arsenal, the squad needs to add both depth and quality.” a candid Thompson told reporters on Monday night. 

When questioned as to what areas of the pitch he felt needed improving, Thompson replied, “We need a top center half, some depth to wingback and forward but most desperately we need to add dynamism, creativity, and steel in midfield. Now whether that’s a 6 and an 8 or a 6 and a 10 or all three, is really up to our Technical Director to determine."

The financial status of Arsenal Football club is well documented and although they have broken some transfer fee records in the past few years, they are not in a place to spend freely. "We have to be savvy. We don’t have the financial backing of a Chelsea or Liverpool’s luck in the market. We’re likely going to have to move some players on before we bring any in."

Thompson was blunt in response to questions regarding whether he thought this Arsenal squad was capable of winning it all. “Listen, I’m not going to pretend that we’re favorites here. Our rivals continue to strengthen while we are already at a significant squad level disadvantage. Chelsea are spending like they're playing a video game and they will improve once they get time to gel."

In typical Thompson fashion, he took a jab at EA Sports and their rating system that he feels is outdated and out of touch. “FIFA clearly has not been watching the Serie A for the past decade and as such thinks that it’s still the best league in the world, and such teams like Inter Milan and Napoli are elite level.”

When pressed further on who he thinks will win the league and cup competitions Thompson did not mince his words,  “I think you’d have to be delusional to conclude anyone other than Liverpool as the clear favorites. Pruitt is the most successful manager in the world and now he has hands down the best team in the history of our league. Anything other than a treble for them would be a huge surprise.

That said, I’m expecting us to go out there, work hard, and compete. We may not have the talent but we can win through commitment and team structure. There’s a lot of speculation out there right now but I’m confident that the board will get us the help that we need.”
