Germany Run Riot Over Shambolic England

Ach Ja! Deutschland erzielen neun in Berlin.

A Mario Gomez treble would be all Germany would need to take an early lead atop the Qualifying Round standings, the additional six goals were just icing. German manager, W. Prüitt was understandably thrilled with his side's nine goal romp in Berlin hailing the display as a triumph and labeling his side unstoppable.

They had absolutely no answer for us. Mats [Hummels] gave us an early lead, and Mario's quick strike immediately afterwards left them reeling. I'm pleased that we were able to play so well and score so many in only our first match. Hopefully there is still room for improvement there somewhere, as I cannot even find fault with our defensive display.

When pressed about the nature of England's two goals, Prüitt was reluctant to lay the blame with his defenders.

What could they have done? Young is in the team to win penalties like that, I do not think the referee gives that if the game is not already a charity case after thirty minutes; and Gerrard hit the corner from over twenty-five yards. That is exactly why the manager has brought both of those players along: to make something out of absolutely nothing. So, fair play to him.

Prüitt was also displeased with Ashley Cole's red card offense, a dangerous, late lunge on Tomas Müller.

It was disgraceful. A full second after Müller had released Mario into space, and he comes barreling into him from directly behind. It was the correct decision all day long. Clearly it was born out of frustration, Tomas had him in his pocket since kick off.

An emphatic opening win, especially against a bitter rival, will do German confidence a world of good. It was their profligacy that let them down in the last tournament, scoring nine will assuage fears of a repeat for now.

  1. Things turned for the worst around the 55th minute. I cant play a man down for 70 minutes against the Germans without conceeding a ton of goals. I've seen the challenge by Ashley Cole given as yellow before and sometime not a booking at all. Good game though

    1. If you have seen a reckless lunge, from directly behind, a full second after the ball had been passed given as only a yellow or not even a booking then I think we can definitively state that those were the erroneous instances. Not this one.

      Yes?

    1. Pummeling the opposition is not a legitimate way to earn individual honors?
