In what would prove to be a gritty encounter at Anfield, two resurgent sides played out an end-to-end affair, with one man proving to be the difference...
For all the talk of Liverpool and Roma's uncharacteristically poor starts to the season, these two clubs have found themselves on the verge of turning their respective campaigns into something resembling success. Roma are in the race for the Champions Cup playoffs, and Liverpool are pushing Chelsea and Inter down to the wire in the title race.
Last night's clash between the two started brilliantly for the home side, with Milan Jovanovic slotting a pass through for Luis Suarez to calmly dispatch with his left foot. The visitors responded not long after, when Francesco Totti headed home from 6 yards. Liverpool huffed and puffed for the better part of 35 minutes before finally breaking the deadlock, Steven Gerrard seizing an errant pass and providing once again for Mr. Suarez. A third goal 5 minutes later in similar circumstances gave Liverpool the 3 points, "El Pistolero" the match ball, and the Reds their highest league position of the season.
