A Few Observations About the 09/10 Season

“One man only scores…Only scores for Roma”

Scoring 2/3 of his team’s goals, Totti carried Roma to a Champions Cup Final victory and another top 4 finish in the league. If injuries took effect in the GIMP surely someone would’ve bit the bullet, wore a small suspension and took Totti out action in the first game. With strikers like Drogba, Torres, Ibrahimovic and Klose in the league, no one would’ve guessed that Totti may be the most dangerous of them all when running at defenders. Critt constantly throws passes forward to Totti putting him one on one with defenders and somehow Totti is able to capitalize on a consistent basis.

Who needs a midfield anyway?

If you’re a midfielder who didn’t play for either Chelsea of Liverpool, there’s a pretty good chance that you were irrelevant this season in the GIMP. Designated to committing fouls and taking the occasional free-kick, the majority of the managers underused their world class midfields. Barcelona, with arguably the best midfield in the game, managed to scrape one goal out of Iniesta. Who needs Xavi right?

Chelsea and Liverpool’s midfields scored more than both Arsenal and Spurs’ team totals.

If you were scored on chances are it was pretty c***, right?

Over 300 goals scored in the league and over 250 of them were probably called c**** at one point or another.

Defend up by 2? Nah go for the throat!

Ooops. Hard to think of a situation here that didn’t involve a side managed by Ingoglia. Why sit back and defend when you’re up 2-0 , when you can press forward hard and lose 5-2?

My world class players are absolute rubbish!

Complaining was at an all time high this season. Everyone, despite having world class players on their team, have all complained once about their “s***” side. No one is playing with Derby or Pompey. If your team, who is dealing with crazy amounts of injuries, has no problem competing in the Premier League, than you should have no problem competing with a full-strength digital squad in the GIMP.

...more to come

  1. If you mean "throw" as in through ball, then get an F-ing clue. I used the Y button (through ball pass) three times this entire season. That is fact, not an opinion.

But, if you mean "throw" as in makes good and well timed passes and Totti just happens to be the guy who finishes, then yes, that is true. We all cannot play with the stacked out mercenary squad that is Chelsea. So in this regard, my hands are bound. There was no "feed Totti the ball so he can lock up the Golden Boot" like was tried last year by me. I didn't even know he was close to the top (and even though he came in second, he wasn't that close).

With little regard to truth and validity, you see what you want to and you always have.

  2. Everyone does play with 11 player though don't they?

Little regard to the truth? How about the big pie chart in the previous post?

  3. More truth (facts): Both Gerrard and Lampard scored more goals this season than Roma if you take away Totti's goals

  4. More truth: If a blog post isn't written tot cater to you, you immediately attempt to say that "facts" or "truths" were spun in favor of the author... You really can't do that when there are concrete facts all over the blog and in the spreadsheet.

  5. Let me start by saying: this is NOT an attack, merely an observation of a style of play/importance placed upon a single player.

    Over 21 games:

One man accounts for 65% of one team's goals.

That team's next highest scorer is 16 goals shy of the team's leading goalscorer.

(As a wise man once said)We are talkin' about facts. How Totti came to score twice as many goals as Roma's other scorers combined is irrelevant (for now at least), as is the way the others were lucky enough to get their paltry totals (open nets after Totti blasts one off a 'keeper's face from 9 yards).

It's o.k. to build from the front (right, Burns?). It works (in video games).
