Liverpool started brightly in the final, with Gerrard scoring once in each half to give his side a seemingly comfortable lead until the 84th minute when Jerome Boateng scored from a corner to make it 2-1. From then on a Bayern equaliser seemed destined and Arjen Robben found enough space in the area to send the tie to extra time.
Gerrard would again give the Reds the advantage after slotting into the bottom corner from 18 yards, but Müller restored parity shortly after, nodding home from four.
With the match seemingly headed to penalties, Bayern conceded a foul in Liverpool's defensive half. Daniel Agger found Luis Suarez in plenty of space who played Gerrard one on one with Holger Badstuber. With 123 minutes on the clock the Merseyside man made short work of his marker, turning him twice before curling the ball beyond Manuel Neuer.
The final whistle came seconds later, bringing the thrilling encounter to an end, and bringing Liverpool's second Champions Cup honour - the most of any DFA club.

ReplyDelete2010 as well.
DeleteOne man only scores?
ReplyDeleteOh the comments that would come from certain people if it have been some other team scoring 4 times with just one man.
I'd love to hear them. Four goals from midfield is rare enough in this league, let alone from one player.
DeleteIn at least three matches between Bayern and Liverpool this year. One player has scored all four goals for 'pool. Carroll, Suarez, and now Gerrard.
DeleteI think Carroll hit four out of seven in that game.
DeleteIan just proved there were several different heroes for Liverpool this year, not sure the problem?
No you do not.
DeleteIt doesn't matter that in different games it was different people.
ReplyDeletePeople are either ignorant, scared, or brain dead to not speak their mind on how easy it is to see that "certain people" would throw the biggest bitch fit if they lost by the hands of one player scoring multiple goals.
If we want to go further into it, Gerrard and Suarez...the two at the top of the goals scored. So is it ridiculous to stretch the saying from "One man only scores" to something along the lines of "The two man team". Lord knows Palermo catches some wonderful negative feedback when only Miccoli and Hernandez score the only goals in one match let alone when they score them all.
I really don't care if "certain managers" score 88 goals in a season and they are all by one person or even two players. I understand that it's a video game and I expect people to play to their strengths. What gets me is if it was the other way around (which does happen) these "certain managers" start to bitch and complain.
These "Certain Managers" = Double Standard
What is this ^^
