Liverpool remained the only club to win the Community Shield as they picked up their sixth against a limp Chelsea side. The Blues looked nothing like the title favourites they are, perhaps suffering from over-confidence due to their über-expensive and star-studded squad. Steven Gerrard opened the scoring in the first half and Osama Assaidi added to the cushion not long after. Reina was only troubled from distance as Chelsea struggled to retain possession, finishing with a paltry 41%.

One man only scored, only scored for Liverpool. Luis Suarez picked up a hat trick in Paris to give the Reds the first three points of the season. Two second half strikes made Zlatan Ibrahimovic's far post header irrelevant as Prüitt's men ran out to another comfortable victory.
