Gunners Firing on All Cylinders
Arsenal opened their league account in convincing fashion with a 7-2 thrashing of the muy talented-o Barca squad on Wednesday night. With 2 goals and 2 assists each for Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, Arsenal's new signings have certainly exceeded expectations in the early going and has them pressing for a position in what is looking like a two horse race early on. After dispelling Palermo in a now pointless Champions League home and away leg, the Gunners kept rolling in their league opener tonight.
Many questions will be asked of new manager, SeƱor Murph Perro, after showing signs of promise in preseason matches. If there are any positives to be gleaned, the offense does seem to have a potent punch and a few clever 1-2's led to what we've come to expect with this group. But the other side of the ball.. well that's a very different story.
After being warned that the game has changed drastically on defense, the Catalan manager made no adjustments and paid the price with poorly timed tackles leading to cool finishes from an Arsenal side that couldn't be stopped. A Podolski back heel goal was the climactic moment though he would come off the pitch immediately following, a tactic that we'll likely see more of this season. Santi Cazorla also had a brilliant goal from distance and collected an assist as he looks to be the engine of this new-look Arsenal squad. Will they fill the massive, cheeto-laden shoes left by last year's league champ? Time will tell but let's hope for the league's sake that if they do, it doesn't lead to the same managerial outcome for next season.

..speaking of filling shoes, did I hear a Critterbug was chirping around this blog?? The commish has already had to redo schedules multiple times now, what's one more? What say you, Roma?

I don't like cheetos.
ReplyDeleteA Gooner over excited about one game against an inferior opponent? No... That's not like them.

ReplyDeleteI can't play defense. This story is accurate. The game probably should have ended 4-1 on real soccer plays. Still pushing for manual controls to take out "cock" tactics.
ReplyDeleteHow much of a difference do the manual controls make? I've never tried 'em.
ReplyDeleteThis comment section is quite hilarious.
