An elated Germany manager, Liam Pruitt had nothing but praise for his squad after they claimed their first International title."Everyone played an integral part in this triumph, Klose and Gomez tallied a ludicrous amount of goals for us. Ballack did the same but also ran the midfield like a maestro. Tonight [against Spain], our defense was impeccable; a clean sheet and a the second goal was scored by Mertesacker [a central defender]."
Pruitt continued, "There's just not enough time to cover everyone in the squad, but they all performed brilliantly all tournament long."
The Germans took the lead in the 35th through Miroslav Klose and looked rock solid for the entire 90 minutes. Man of the match, Per Mertesacker, put in a flawless performance next to Cristoph Metzelder in central defense; earning goalkeeper Rene Adler a quite comfortable clean sheet.
The Germans looked worthy winners. They were the most complete team in the pool: a potent, multi-pronged attack coupled with a strong, confident defense saw them claim Pruitt's first available hardware. What price a Pruitt treble?
