Play opened with De Rossi putting in a bullet from outside the box within the first 5 minutes. Chelsea quickly responded with a goal of its own when Anelka kicked in a deflection within yards of the goal line. This promising start kept up throughout the first half until Perrotta put a brilliant ball in for Roma close to the 45th minute.
During halftime, Totti must have received inspiring words from manager Aaron Crittenden for he started and completed a hat-trick all within the second half. During this time, he corrected his over aggressive shot power and received some lucky breaks off of misplayed balls by the Chelsea midfield and back five. During this time, the clean and fun play from Chelsea turned for the worse when the bookings started. Three yellows and one straight red later, Chelsea limped off the field with a loss and without their captain for the next two games.
