Opening Night Predictions

With the new season just a few hours away I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the opening day fixtures and give my predictions for how the GIMP 09 season will begin.

Liverpool v AC
With Ingoglia struggling against Pruitt in a number of friendlies leading up to this match it will be hard to pick against the Reds. For AC to have a chance they will need to slow down Torres and Gerrard and work the ball quickly through the midfield. Ingo's fast playing style (one touch passes/shots) and a steady dose of through balls will be the only way for him to have a shot. If AC can frustrate Liverpool with these quick passes and a cluttered midfield than they might be able to pull up an upset.

Prediction: Liverpool 4 - AC 1

Man United v Barca
Not much is known about how Tindle will manage the Red Devils in the league. After playing Barca it in a recent friendly, it is very clear that Murph will make the Spanish side very competive in the league. United must count on a big day from CR7 and Rooney in order to make this match close. Look for Messi to have at least 1 goal and for contributions from Eto'o and Henry as well.

Prediction: Man Uunted 3 - Barca 5

Chelsea v Roma
This is clearly the match of the week. Both sides are extremely familiar with one another and look for a very tight game. Totti & DeRossi have always come up big against the Blues I expect the same to continue in this one. It is still unclear as to what formation Chelsea will use in this match up. There have been talks about the Blues leaving "cancerous" players off the squad. With a Chelsea lineup including the likes of Sinclair and DiSanto it will be hard for them to match the offensive attack of Roma.

Prediction: Chelsea 1 - Roma 3
