With the first third of the season complete Chelsea find themselves in the middle of the table. At the start of the 09 campaign they were considered to be amongst the favourites to contend for the title. After dropping points at home to Roma, Liverpool and Manchester United, Chelsea find themselves 11 points behind league leader Liverpool. Roma have emerged as the team to challenge Liverpool this season for GIMP glory.
"We played hard through the first five games and have absolutely nothing to show for it. With the execption of the game against Roma we've played very well. We lost to Liverpool in the 93rd minute and failed to score late against both AC and United. We could easily have 10 points right now but instead we're stuck with 5."
"These next few games will be huge for us. I don't want to put pressure on the lads but we can't afford any more slip ups."
Chelsea play United this week in the league cup and face an even tougher challenge in league competition. The Hall A Derby is set to be an important game for both sides. Roma can end Chelsea's title hopes with a win over their rivals and would be more than happy to do so. "Roma is no threat to us. They are one man show. You'd have to be blind not to see it. If we can stop Totti we can stop Roma. Simple as that." Chelsea lost to Roma 5-1 in their first meeting earlier in the year. "It won't happen again. I can assure you we will be up to the challenge this time."
