Blues Beaten By Bayern

Chelsea suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Ian Thompson and Bayern Munich Thursday evening. The Thompson Burns match up has always produced thrilling matches and this one was no different. Bayern jumped out to an early 2 goal lead just before the end of the first half. Chelsea changed tactics at half time, and with the addition of Malouda in the 60th minute, were able to level the score by the 75th. With the game looking like it would end in a draw, Mario Gomez was played through to goal in the 90th minute and was able calmly net the winning goal.

"It was a puzzling game. I really thought the match deserved to end in a draw. All the goals were set up and finished in such bizarre ways that both Ian and I were left in shock after it all ended. All the good play from both teams weren't rewarded but anytime Bayern cleared a ball down field it seemed to bounce over a defenders headed and roll right in the path of Gomez and every time Chelsea played a ball into the box it seemed like Lahm was being used as a step ladder for Essien, Lamps and Drogba. Its just a shame the way all the goals were scored."

Chelsea still hold a 5 point lead over the champions (Liverpool) but their quest for their first title has become much more difficult with the loss.
