Germany & Prüitt Prevail on Penalties

Prüitt's German side claimed their third International Cup tonight, after besting Thompson's Brazil on penalties.

It was drama worthy of a final. Alexandre Pato drew Brazil back from 1-2 down in the 118th minute to shock the Germans and send the two sides to the cruelest of tiebreaks. But as the stereotype goes, the Germans were more than capable with their penalties and claimed their third DFA title.

There was early drama as a Michael Ballack clearance sent Miroslav Klose clean through on goal. Julio Cesar's clumsy challenge outside the area warranted a foul but no booking let alone the straight red the rulebook demands. Twenty minutes later Kaka put the home side ahead with a fine 18 yard strike into the side netting. The chances were with the visitors but the scoreline remained with the Brazilians. That is, until the 78th minute when Miroslav Klose was played in by substitute Marko Marin who had only been on the pitch 3 minutes.

Mesut Ozil looked to have put the Germans in dreamland following a long punt from Klose this time the German striker was able to round Cesar outside the area to slot home easily. Two minutes from the end of extra time, Robinho shrugged aside the German defense and was able to find Pato at the far post, who hit his header in off the underside of the bar and in.

It was Pato, however who hit his penalty remarkably high and into the stands to give the Germans the advantage. Lukas Podolski calmly sent Cesar the wrong way to ensure the International Cup was headed back to Berlin.
